Richard Arenas has received numerous commissions for his sculptures. One for the University of Southern California, a large out door bronze sculpture for the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Fresno, CA and the Manuel Hernandez Elementary School in Visalia and a bronze bust for the Stan Beyer Memorial Fund in Delano, CA . He has received many awards for his art and community involvement including the Local Hero of the Year Award from Valley Public television and induction into the College of the Sequoias Hall of Fame. His abstract art and Pre Colombian influence are visually inspiring.
This is a replica of a Palenque Panel depicting a ceremony of Kan-Xul the Maya Prince being raised to godhood with his parents at his side. The original is located in Palenque, Chiapas Mexico. It is from the late classic period. The mural is made of stucco. It was made from molds sculpted by Richard Arenas painted and assembled on the wall.
Arenas is from a Campesino family from Mexico. He was born and raised in Tulare County California. Having worked the fields throughout California, he feels strongly about social and economic rights for all. He has dedicated his entire creative life to the making of art that addresses these very issues. This work represents an abstract and patterned manner silhouette figure in the physical positions of workers in the field at labor. This is Father and Son
